Lemont Furnace, PA – The Penn State Fayette Department of Athletics is proud to announce a new addition to the athletics coaching staff. Samantha Swetz, a former Fayette student-athlete and graduate of the Penn State Fayette Administration of Justice program, will be returning to the campus as the head women's volleyball coach.
Swetz will be the successor to coach Nancy Wheeler who resigned to pursue other opportunities of furthering her coaching experience as the NCAA DII Head Women's Volleyball Coach at West Virginia Wesleyan.
Swetz, a former athlete of Wheeler, played from 2011-2014 and was an extremely influential leader of the program that participated in and won the PSUAC Conference Championship in each of the four years. In that time, Swetz was a recipient of numerous awards at the Conference and National level being a 3-time PSUAC All-Conference student-athlete (2012-14), PSUAC Scholar Athlete of the Year (2011), and a USCAA All-American Honorable Mention (2013).
A familiar face to the Penn State Fayette campus and community, Swetz hopes to bring her coaching experience and passion for the game to the Fayette Women's Volleyball program. "I am beyond grateful to be able to give back to a program I care so much about." Swetz stated.
Currently serving as the Laurel Highlands High School Head Volleyball Coach, Swetz also serves as the Youth League Coordinator of the successful non-profit youth volleyball club, the Penn Highlands Junior Olympic Volleyball Club. Additionally, Swetz served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Fayette Volleyball program in 2015.
With an impressive resume of coaching experience in her young career, it will be the resume of passion and confidence that will serve as the most appealing attribute of her presence in leading the program. Swetz passionately exclaimed that she hopes to "continue the success Fayette volleyball is known for."
After all, she is a part of that success and legacy. If there was anyone that knew the PSUAC Championship blueprint, it would be her.
